Drafting Process

Step 1: Conduct Research

 

Step 2: Evaluate Your Sources

Ask questions to confirm the resource is reliableIf the answer is "no" to any question, set the material aside:

  • Is the information up to date?
  • Does the information relate to your topic?
  • Who is the author? Are they credible or recognized in the field?
  • Is the information supported by evidence?
  • Is the information biased or objective?

 

Step 3: Create a Working Thesis Statement

  • A thesis is your main argument or claim.
  • It should be clear, specific, and debatable.
  • Example: “AI tools are transforming healthcare by improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing costs.”
     

Step 4: Outline Your Paper

Build the structure of your paper with:

  1. Introduction concept
  2. Thesis statement
  3. Paragraph headings with source notes
  4. Conclusion 

 

Step 5: Write the First Draft

  • Don’t aim for perfection—just get your ideas down.
  • Use topic sentences and transitions.
  • Support claims with evidence and cite as you go.

 

Step 6: Prepare Citations

 

Step 7: Visit a Writing Tutor at the Library Learning Hub

 

Step 8: Revise and Edit

  • Apply feedback from tutors or peers.
  • Check for:
    • Clarity and flow
    • Grammar and spelling
    • Proper citations

 

Step 9: Finalize and Submit

  • Format your paper according to the required style according to assignment instructions.
  • Double-check your citations and bibliography.
  • Submit it through Canvas or method described by instructor.
